My favourite part of the project so far - sculpted and hand painted in Zbrush. I'm trying to push for a soft-realism-stylised look but I did get a bit obsessed with the detail in a few places!

I had a lot of fun researching the wood-fired kiln process - lots of really cool kiln shapes. I don't know if mine would be the most practical but I was keen to make something slightly magical and flame-shaped.

I used manual LODs for this project. The larger form has 3 LODs while the smaller ones have 2. Here you can see them at their lowest poly setting.

To get the initial brick pattern I created a different UV layout using a trim sheet technique, then reprojected onto non-overlapping UVs for the final sculpt.

This was a very satisfying model to make - making simple yet effective subdividable models is always an enjoyable little challenge!

I'm working on a ceramic artist's cottage in UE5 - this is quite an ambitious project so here is a sneak peek into a key component of the scene - the kiln. I chose to make this initial vignette to figure out the best workflows and style for the piece before moving ahead with the final project. I'm looking forward to making foliage next!
